HOW TO FIND A MEMORABLE DOMAIN NAME

HOW TO FIND A MEMORABLE DOMAIN NAME

It is important for the simple reason that when people think of your website, they will think
of it by name. If your name is also your URL (ie, web address), they will automatically
know where to go. For example, when people think of Wehostafrica.com, they don't have
to wonder what web address to type into their browser to get there. The name of the site is
also the URL.
I personally feel that a domain name that matches your brand name is very important. The
very name that you use to advertise your product is the name that you will want for your
domain, because that is the first thing people will try in their browser. It is also the easiest
thing for them to remember, and whatever that is easily remembered, will be more likely to
be tried out than the obscure domain name.
Below are few points that will help in domain forming a memorable domain name for your
business:

USE AN ACRONYM
It is great to use your company's name as your domain name, but not bad to use the abbreviation of your company as your domain name.  For example Companies like IBM and BMW use their acronyms in their brands and their domain
names. It is also possible to abbreviate your states, countries and professions in your domain name, for
example: GH, USA and NG.

USE A DOMAIN NAME SUGGESTION TOOL
Verisign's DomainScope combines many tips into one tool to provide available domain
name options. All you need to do is type in keywords of interest and a list of relevant
options is automatically generated for you to choose from. You can also use the tool to find
recently expired domain names that are newly available and may be already receiving
traffic.
Getting a great domain name requires a mix of flexibility and creativity. Using the tips
above, you'll be well on your way.

AVOID LEGAL AND COPYRIGHT ISSUES
Having a unique brand and domain name is the best to avoid complications. Do your due
diligence. Make sure that your domain name isn’t linked to a registered trademark,
business name or brand.

MAKE YOUR DOMAIN NAME MOBILE FRIENDLY
Apart from branding, put mobile-friendliness at the heart of your domain name. At
about 52 percent, more than half of all internet traffic comes from mobile devices, so it will
be best to position your domain name for that audience too.

CHOOSE DOMAIN EXTENSIONS THAT REPRESENT YOUR INDUSTRY
Search engines attribute websites to their top-level domains. If you used .org.ng, it gets
the message that you’re targeting people from Nigeria. A .co.uk is for people in United
Kingdom or interested in topics related to United Kingdom.
Hence, Google, Bing, and other search engines classify contents partly by their top-level
domains. If your website is an eCommerce store, you stand a better position using .store
instead of .com.

AVOID SPECIAL CHARACTERS: NUMBERS AND HYPHENS
Just like adjusted spellings of normal words, using numbers and hyphens makes your
domain name complicated and difficult to remember. Your user will not know whether you
mean six or 6 and something as small as that can mean losing potential customers.
Save yourself and everyone else the headache. Use a name that doesn’t need any extra
effort to be written, pronounced, or remembered.
