How do I transfer a domain name to Wehostafrica

Before you proceed with your domain transfer, the following procedures must be put in place:

  1. Information like your EPP code should be provided. You are also expected to contact your current registrar to access this information.
  2. The registrant email address linked to your domain must be functional and correct. During the transfer process, an email will be sent for your approval and the registrant is expected to click on the authorization link to start the transfer process.
  3. Ensure that you remove the registrar lock embedded with the domain if not; it will stop the transfer process. To check, look at the whois lookup to where it states "Status:" If the status indicates "locked," it needs to be unlocked before proceeding with the transfer process.
  4. Also, make sure that the ID protection on the domain is disabled.

Once you have put all these in place, endeavor to click this link to authenticate an order. Some domain transfers take at most 7 calendar days to be finalized if the highlighted requirements are met. For .NG extensions, it takes 24 hours if the appropriate EPP is provided.

To effect the changes stated above, you must get in touch with the registrar (the company you purchased the domain from), to effect the necessary changes.

Expired Domains & Domains in Redemption

Domains can only be transferred after their expiration period, note that this cannot be done while in their redemption period. Although, during the process of transferring an expired domain name, it doesn’t require any updates (this implies that if you need to change your email address to a new one, you have to renew the domain name before you can effect such changes.)

Although it is quite possible that the transfer of an expired domain will work, it is not applicable in all cases due to one or more issues (such as being outdated, locked email address, etc.). If you intend to transfer it while expired, ensure that you monitor the transfer carefully so that in the event that it fails, you can restore it before

it goes into redemption.

60 Day Rule

Note that it is impossible to transfer a domain unless it has been included in the current registrar for at least 60 days.

Renewal Less than 45 Days Ago

If you send a domain to us which has undergone a renewal process at the previous registrar for at most 45 days, the domain will not allow transfer for an additional year after the completion of the transfer process. If you make the domain transfer after 45 days of renewing it, then an additional year will be added to your registration. Note that this applies to all registrars and is a registry restriction.
